Who created the Bird on a Rock?
Jean Schlumberger, the French-born designer who joined Tiffany & Co. in 1956 and gave the American jeweler a new language of color, nature and fantasy. In 1965 he created the Bird on a Rock brooch, inspired by a yellow cockatoo he saw on his travels: a jeweled bird in yellow and white diamonds perched on a rough gemstone. The design became so famous that, decades later, it was set atop the 128.54-carat Tiffany Diamond itself.
What is new in the 2026 collection?
- Figural birds: hand-sculpted in 18k yellow gold with wings inspired by Schlumberger’s 1950s Flames earrings, and engraved chevrons.
- Wings: alternating gold and platinum wings on necklaces, rings, drop earrings and an articulated bracelet.
- Feathers high jewelry: a suite developed over nearly three years, with birds that interact with one another.
The collection is led by Nathalie Verdeille, Tiffany’s chief artistic officer for jewelry and high jewelry.
