The Omega Speedmaster price in 2026 begins at about $7,800 for the classic Moonwatch Professional on a steel bracelet, and climbs past $49,000 for the same chronograph in 18k gold. Few watches have a story so neatly told: a racing chronograph of 1957 that NASA qualified for spaceflight, that reached the Moon in 1969 and that still sells in nearly the same form today. Here is what each Speedmaster costs at the time of writing, which versions to choose between, and what the pre-owned market asks.

What do you get in the Moonwatch Professional?
The current Moonwatch is a 42 mm steel chronograph with a black dial, a tachymeter bezel and three subdials, water resistant to 50 meters. Inside is the hand-wound Calibre 3861, introduced in 2021 to replace the Calibre 1861. It beats at 21,600 vibrations an hour and runs for about 50 hours on a full wind, and it is certified as a Master Chronometer, with a silicon balance spring that resists magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss, according to The Watchology. Because it is wound by hand, the Moonwatch asks for a few turns of the crown each morning, a small ritual that many owners come to enjoy.
Hesalite or sapphire: which Moonwatch should you buy?
The difference of about $1,200 buys a sapphire crystal and a display case back that shows the movement. The Hesalite version keeps the domed acrylic crystal and solid case back of the watches NASA issued, and it is the one most collectors call the “true” Moonwatch. Hesalite has a softer, warmer look and can be polished free of light scratches; sapphire resists scratching but reflects more light. In our view, the Hesalite model on the bracelet is the purest choice and the better value, while the sapphire version suits those who want to watch the 3861 at work.
What are the new Speedmasters for 2026?
The year opened with the Reverse Panda Moonwatch, published by SJX on January 13, 2026: a black lacquered dial with white subdials and a black ceramic bezel insert, sapphire crystal and the Calibre 3861, at about $10,400 in steel and $49,300 in 18k Moonshine Gold. In August, Omega refreshed the smaller Speedmaster 38, now from about $6,500 for a steel model with a matte black dial and no date to about $13,100 for a diamond-set bezel with a white mother-of-pearl dial, according to Luxury Bazaar. How much is a pre-owned Omega Speedmaster?
Unlike some steel sports watches, the Moonwatch is easy to buy at retail, and the pre-owned market sits well below list price. WatchCharts put the market price of the Hesalite Moonwatch at about $5,625 on October 19, 2026, against $7,800 new, and the sapphire model at about $6,502 against $9,000. The Speedmaster 38 traded at about $4,341. Past prices don’t predict future value, but for a buyer who values the watch more than the box-fresh experience, a well-kept example can save roughly a quarter. A short history of the Speedmaster
Omega introduced the Speedmaster in 1957 as reference CK2915, powered by the hand-wound Calibre 321 and designed for timing on the race track. Between October 1964 and March 1965, NASA put chronographs from several makers through a series of demanding tests, and the Speedmaster ref. 105.003 was declared “flight-qualified for all manned space missions,” as Swisswatches Magazine recounts. On July 21, 1969, Buzz Aldrin wore his on the lunar surface during Apollo 11. A year later, the Apollo 13 crew used their Speedmasters to time a crucial 14-second engine burn on the way home, and NASA honored Omega with the Silver Snoopy Award.
The movement has evolved in measured steps: the Calibre 861 in 1968, the rhodium-plated 1861 in 1997 and the Master Chronometer 3861 in 2021. The case, dial and bezel have changed far less, which is much of the appeal.
Few icons let you buy the original idea, nearly unchanged, from a boutique counter almost seventy years later.
Speedmaster or Seamaster?
Omega’s two pillars suit different lives. The Speedmaster is a hand-wound chronograph rooted in motor racing and spaceflight; the Seamaster Diver 300M is an automatic dive watch built for water.
